<p style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia,'Bitstream Charter',serif; line-height: 1.5; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">Named after notable Augusta philanthropist Emily Tubman, the Tubman Education Center has played a important role in Augusta’s history since its founding as the Neely Institute in 1874. Until the 1950s, it served as the only public high school for girls in the Augusta area.</p>
<p style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia,'Bitstream Charter',serif; line-height: 1.5; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">The current structure was designed by local architect G. Lloyd Preacher in the Beaux Arts tradition in 1917. At the time, the structure contained many previously unforeseen innovations including a large state of the art auditorium capable of seating 864, a library, steam heated classrooms, and a ventilation system.</p>
<p style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia,'Bitstream Charter',serif; line-height: 1.5; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">Georgia Civil&#8217;s role in the renovation process has been to design and engineer new vehicular and pedestrian routes within the school grounds, as well as make landscaping improvements to the grounds.</p>
<p style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia,'Bitstream Charter',serif; line-height: 1.5; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">Georgia Civil is proud to partner with the Richmond County Board of Education and<span style="color: #0066cc; font-family: Georgia,'Bitstream Charter',serif; line-height: 1.5;"> <span style="color: #993300;"> </span></span><strong><a style="color: #0066cc; font-family: Georgia,'Bitstream Charter',serif; line-height: 1.5;" title="Chetham, Fletcher, Scott Architect" href="http://www.cfsarchitects.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #993300;">Cheatham Fletcher Scott Architects</span></a></strong> in assuring the Tubman Education Center continues to hold a prominent position in Augusta’s History.</p>
