What our clients say...
“As a non-profit organization, we were looking for excellent Civil Engineering work in order to maximize use of donated land at our new Covington YMCA Outdoor Center.  We had high expectations that Georgia Civil would not only do great site work, but also would genuinely care about this project for our community.  They far exceeded those high expectations and the YMCA staff and children who play at our new center are grateful for their expertise, attention to our needs, and the genuine concern they showed.”

The Atria Hotel – Covington, Georgia

Project Type:
70 Room Upper mid-scale hotel

Project Size: 2.24 acres

Georgia Civil’s Scope:  Site development permitting – City of Covington

Driveway permit – Newton County

Project Challenge

In one of the first developments of its kind, the Atria Hotel, a recently released Best Western prototype, was planned for a prime location near a new Wal-Mart Superstore and a separate retail development.  The site was a wooded two acre parcel that housed an existing cellular tower.  Georgia Civil had the task of placing and engineering the components to fit on a small site, while paying close attention to the physical needs and maintenance access considerations of the cellular company.

Design Challenges:

Site size compared to the building size and required parking

Designing around existing cell tower facility.

Permitting with multiple agencies – City of Covington and Newton County

Preliminary plan required Planning Commission approval as a condition of zoning

Georgia Civil’s Solutions

Georgia Civil worked with hotel ownership and the project architect to design a preliminary plan that was reviewed by the Planning Commission and given approval to move forward.  The design team’s plan fit the hotel building, parking, associated infrastructure, and landscaping onto the small site, while considering the needs of the cellular company leasing the tower.

Georgia Civil worked with the City of Covington Electric Department to devise a two phase plan for grading, demolition, and erosion control, to ensure that the proper steps were taken to remove the tower’s existing power supply and replace it with a supply that integrated the hotel.  In addition, Georgia Civil submitted plans to both the City of Covington and Newton County to secure the necessary permits.
