An essential part of taking a Client’s vision from concept to reality is selecting a site that fits the desired use.  Despite the real estate mantra- location, location, location, site selection is more than just location.  For that matter, it is much more than finding the right size site and finding a parcel that has a favorable zoning for the use.  In addition to these aforementioned factors, physical, biological, and cultural aspects of a site should be considered early in the process to ensure a good fit and reduce development costs.

So, why isn’t more thought given to site selection?  Are feasibility studies too expensive?  Too time consuming?  Do developers and small business owners not realize the importance of this step or not know where to turn for assistance.

Shouldn’t many of the site selection tools available to large commercial developers and industrial giants be available to the average small business owner and developer?  Shouldn’t real estate agents and design professionals work together to find a site that fits the developer’s needs and is within budget.

We think so.  That is the intent of the Site Development Analytics (SDA) collaborative.  SDA links small business owners and other site developers with land planners, engineers, and landscape architects, with real estate professionals, and with other design consultants if the size and scope of the project warrant it.  The goal is simple, a turnkey, cost effective solution, to analyze multiple sites, quickly and efficiently, identifying the right site for the proposed development.
