The Design Process:
Step 1 - Site Programming
Step 2 - Site Analysis and Feasibility Studies
Step 3 - Schematic Design
Step 4 - Design Development
Step 5 - Construction Documentation
Step 3 Schematic Design
Schematic design refers to the preliminary drawings design professionals produce during the site design phase of a project. This phase marks the most creative phase of the project, and it entails exploration, interpretation, representation and experimentation.
The site design process is not only creative but also iterative – the drawings start in general, overall terms, and move into specifics as the concepts are explored, refined and resolved. This is where we, the design professionals, and you, the Client, think and dream big.
In consideration of our clients’ vision for the site and how the vision relates to the site’s elements, the first few loose sketches produced are best described as fluid diagrammatic explorations. Sketching is a skill design professionals use to visually explore ideas. At the same time, sketching is a quick and easy way to communicate the basic composition or overall structure of a design without going into great detail.
At this stage, ideas are discussed, adopted or thrown out, and different design approaches are evaluated. The diagrams are then applied to the selected site, and the outline of the site’s physical, biological and cultural features are “superimposed”, one layer at a time. By juxtaposing and re-arranging the features and diagrams in different ways, conceptual designs are created and presented to our clients for their comments and selection.
At Georgia Civil, our goal is to design with nature in mind – ultimately, our design solutions facilitate the harmonious existence of developments within its environment and community. By matching the capabilities of the site with our clients’ desired outcomes, the design that emerges is a sustainable symbiosis of the two.
We understand how important graphic representations are as a communication and visualization tool for our clients, and we take great pride to create clear conceptual designs to assure our clients of our shared understanding of their wishes. Using the sophisticated CAD software to produce high quality drawings, our schematic designs are detailed, useful point-of-reference guides throughout the project.
